Marla has been involved in Madison County activities for almost twenty years. When her children participated in sports through the West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association, Marla played an active role in supporting the teams in any way she could, including coaching pee-wee soccer.
When her son played travel baseball on a team from West Jefferson, Marla was the photographer/news contributor. She served as a board member for the Hurt Battelle Memorial Library and is a Friend of the Library.
For the last nine years, Marla has been the volunteer legal advisor for West Jefferson High School's Mock Trial team (the only team in Madison County). The school's teams have been very successful and have advanced to the State competition multiple times. This year's season was cut short due to the health pandemic, but both of the school's team advanced to the State level competition.
